• Develop a character you’ve created,

• Tame a rebellious character you’ve created.

June 29, 2024 – LEARN THE SECRETS OF STRUCTURE

More exploration:

• Construct a scene, the basic building block of structure,

• Learn screenplay structure and how to use it in your novel or memoir,

• Review other theories of structure.

July 20, 2024 – FIND YOUR VOICE

We’ll look at voice, style, point of view:

• Define voice and how to get it,

• Explore voice and style through language,

• Consider how to use point of view in fiction and memoir.

August 17, 2024 – USE YOUR SETTING AND PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

In the morning, we’ll explore the role of setting in fiction and memoir:

• Enrich character through setting,

• Consider how place influences story,

• Examine the relationship between landscape and theme.

In the afternoon we’ll discuss problems and solutions when we put it all together:

• Beginnings and endings,

• Muddle in the middle,

• Pantsing vs. plotting,

• Staying motivated.
